Gladys is an elderly mobile home resident in a park that had recently been sold. Gladys received an eviction notice from the new owners citing non-payment of lot rental, and claiming she owed hundreds of dollars. Gladys made an appointment with a lawyer in Pisgah Legal Service’s Elder Law program that offers free legal advice, pro bono lawyers, and legal services for underserved populations within the community. An attorney took Gladys’ case and worked with the mobile home park owners to untangle her outstanding debts, which were clearly incorrect.
Ultimately, the mobile home park was able to correct their records and determine that Gladys owed them far less than they'd calculated. They agreed to dismiss the eviction if Gladys paid her debt, which she did. The park dismissed the eviction, and Gladys was able to stay in her home.
