ANNUAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

We host two large volunteer community events each year, Days of Caring and Day of Action. We also have community volunteers sit on our program evaluation panels to review grant applications and make funding recommendations.

Days of Caring - This is an annual two-day community event that welcomes individuals, families, businesses, and civic groups to volunteer to complete projects at local nonprofits, typically in May.

2025 Days of Caring date TBA! Hundreds of volunteers come together to support improvement projects at local Henderson County nonprofit agencies. Projects include a variety that appeal to all kinds of volunteers. For the gardener, projects included mulching, planting and landscaping. For the handy-person, there was painting, small repairs, and construction. Food pantries and thrift stores needed help organizing and stocking products, and the National Association of Letter Carriers accepted volunteers at the postal annex to assist with their food drive. Complete details and registration available in March.

Day of Action  - This is an annual one-day community event that welcomes individuals, families, businesses, and civic groups to volunteer to complete projects at local schools, typically in August.

2025 Day of Action date TBA! Over 200 volunteers worked at local Henderson County Public Schools to help prepare the grounds for the 2025 academic year. Projects included mulching, weeding, and other outdoor maintenance. Details for 2025 Day of Action will be available in the spring.

Program Evaluation Panel Volunteers - Serving as a Program Evaluation Panel member is a great way to give back to our community while learning about the breadth of needs and resources in Henderson County.

Program evaluation panel members serve on a specific focus area -  Education, Financial Stability, Health, or Basic Needs/Crisis Services – and review applications for funding from local nonprofits. Panel members are advocates for clients who receive services, agencies that provide services, and the community at large. In addition, members act as stewards to ensure that UWHC funds are used wisely and responsibly. Panel members attend 3-4 two-hour meetings during February-April, and commit to about two hours of “homework” before each meeting. Please email Kat Carlton for more information.
